Starting in the summer of 2007, The Leap is a collaboration between New York City’s Supa DJ Dmitry (ex-Deelite) and Berliner Haze (Slow Pulse). Supa DJ Dmitry, originally from the Ukraine, grew up in New York City next door to a house full of Rastas. He was soon a fan of reggae and dub, and musical excursions followed through funk, hip-hop, experimental and electronic dance music. He is a founding member of Deee-lite, the much-loved chart-topping NYC dance trio who had eleven no. 1 dance hits in the US and internationally. He moved to Berlin in 2005. Haze is a Berlin-based musician and multi-instrumentalist producer, co-founder of Slow Pulse, working in hip-hop, dub, reggae and downtempo production. His collaboratons on the Slow Pulse project brought him into contact with Supa DJ Dmitry, and the two producers discovered common musical roots. Having been fans of dub music over the years, and returning again and again to reggae and dub for inspiraton, the two producers decided to embark on a new dub project, drawing on all of the skills they had learned producing and performing across the spectrum of groove music. The first fruit of this project is Dub School, Day One, with four killer dub cuts on 10” vinyl from Irieland Music, due for release on May 23 2008.
